Success Stories
Here are a few examples of how previous Principals for a Day (PFADs) have made an impact in our schools.

Organisation: Ports of Auckland – Jens Madsen, Managing Director
School: Wiri Central – Jan Donaldson, Principal
Jens has hosted a visit from the Principal and two senior students for a tour around the Port. Teachers from the school were also invited to run with the Port team at the Round the Bays run in March 2010. As part of ‘Book Week’ in 2009, the company approached some good male role models that matched the school demographics to read to children at the school.
Organisation: Resolve Group – Philippa Walker, Director
School: Wakaaranga Primary – Brent Jenkin, Principal
Since PFAD 2009, Brent has spent a day at Resolve Group discussing strategic planning, leadership and professional development with their Managing Director. Brent was also able to add value to Resolve Group by advising a staff member on ways to improve their written reports. A visit by Year 6 students to talk to Resolve engineers is currently being arranged. Brent and Philippa stay in touch via email.
Organisation: MediaWorks, Brent Impey, (former) CEO
School: Mayfield Primary – Colleen Grey, Principal
Brent Impey arranged a highly successful visit for some students to visit television studios at TV3. This was an eye-opening experience for the students who had a great behind-the-scenes tour and an opportunity to ask questions. This is an excellent way to assist students with their ideas and choices about future jobs and careers.
Organisation: Auckland Harbour Board – Roseanne Meo, Chair
School: Manurewa South Primary, Nola Hambleton, Principal
Nola speaks very highly of the active interest Roseanne Meo took in her school when she was a PFAD. At the time, Roseanne was Chair of Auckland Harbour Board. “She organised a group of students to have a trip out on Auckland Harbour,” says Nola. “And she worked hard to get us help and assistance for the school”. Roseanne also attended a school drama performance and continued to provide mentoring to the Principal for about a year.
